Dr Sturgess sees patients with the full range of rheumatic diseases such as osteoarthritis,
rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, gout and spinal diseases. He encourages a team approach to management which emphasises patient self-help, and cooperation between your GP, specialist and allied health practitioners.
Background:- Dr Sturgess started his medical training in Queensland and completed his post-graduate training in Melbourne at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. He is a senior staff specialist and head of rheumatology at St George Hospital.
His special interests in clinical practice and in research include SLE, diagnostic role of autoantibody testing, and the psychological factors that underlie errors in medical diagnosis and reasoning.
